TÜV-certificated high-performance filter effectively reduces printer emissions

Weinheim, 29.04.2008 - The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) does not rule out the possibility of adverse effects on health caused by emissions from laser printers and copiers - and recommends individual preventative measures. This statement is based on a recently completed pilot study project, the result of which was that a significant increase in the number of fine and ultra-fine particles in room air during printing and copying procedures can now be measured. In its now-published evaluation of the project, the BfR sees the next step as being an examination of the physical and chemical composition of the measured particles.
"Now the real issue is to show consumers how they can already protect themselves effectively from fine dust emissions", said Harald von Schischka, Product Manager Human Protection Filtration at Freudenberg Nonwovens. "A large proportion of these emissions consist of breathable, fine and ultra-fine dust particles. These can accumulate in the lungs - and are suspected today of causing tumors. Oher additional measures can be taken too, like the regular maintenance of appliances, frequent room ventilation and having a room set aside for laser printers and copiers."
